We had been trying to find a good location for a second club to serve the growing badminton population to the east of our original club for many years. When we did find the perfect building in the perfect location, Bob and Eric reached out to some of their badminton friends to form a group to develop the new larger club. Jack Soong, David Hwang, David Anderson and badminton legend Tony Gunawan joined with Eric and Bob to create the new largest badminton club in Southern California with 20 courts in 45,000 square feet of space. The new club located at 3410 Pomona Blvd. in the city of Pomona is just off of the Cal Poly Pomona Campus at the intersection of Pomona Blvd. and Temple Ave. SGVBC II opened for play in May of 2011.

San Gabriel Valley B.c. (sgvbc) | El Monte, CA | (626) 307-4650 |
SGVBC started in September of 1995 as a modest 3 court club in our location at 9255 Telstar Ave. in El Monte. There were two people behind the start up of facility: Bob Cook and Eric McMullin. Bob had been a long time member and the President of the historic Pasadena Badminton Club that had operated in a city owned building in Old Town Pasadena for more than 40 years. Eric had been a recreational badminton enthusiast since enjoying the game in High School and College. While Bob and Eric did not really know each other, they soon began collaborating on developing the new club. The new club in El Monte benefited from the original Pasadena Badminton Club which had fought for “relocation funding†from the city of Pasadena when they were forced out of their long time home on Raymond Ave. Over the years SGVBC has been fortunate to grow into the largest club in the area with 18 courts and more than one thousand dedicated members.

California Badminton Academy | Fremont, CA | (510) 438-0445 |
Looking back twelve years ago, there were no youth badminton training programs in the bay area in 1998. Badminton enthusiasts could only play in high school gyms or at a few community centers. Even though the CCS and NCS badminton systems were set up in high schools, there were no consistent training programs outside of schools for students to learn and perfect their skills. Rose Lei, the founder of California Badminton Academy, spotted the issue and initiated her first annual summer camp in 1998. From that point on, CBA grew from a summer camp into a year-round training program for not only high school students but also badminton enthusiasts at all skill levels to master badminton. Before entering into the sport, many students didn't know much about badminton. But they had a little dream, be it to enter into the high school team, or for some, to become a competitive player in their team. CBA was founded to enable that dream for every one of them. However, without its own facility, CBA operated under very limited gym schedule which constrained the coaching and practice time to as little as once a week. The challenge for the coaches then was to fully utilize the interaction time to lead the students towards their dream. The reward of the sweat and hard work was in watching the little boys and girls grow taller than the coaches and beat the high-level players. Most notably, some of the students that consistently took lessons eventually blossomed into CCS players, and even went on to crown the second place. Though a small achievement, it was a challenge for both CBA and the players. The long road of CBA has just begun. Now with its own facility of 18 courts in Fremont, we are looking forward to providing our badminton enthusiasts with the state-of-the-art facility and guiding our members to practice badminton in the proper way. We hope our members can benefit from physical, mental, social and even life improvements with CBA and our younger players will set bigger dreams in the CBA program. We believe that what we can feed our players as the "badminton nutrition" is our life-long professional knowledge of the sport. CBA will help make your dream become true! CBA's mission is to build a badminton life with our player Strong Mind, Strong Body and Strong Skills to your very young life with Badminton.
